How to transfer your certificate to a new owner

Some certificates can be transferred to someone else. If yours is one of them, this is how you do it.

What you need

• The personal link to your certificate, from the email you received when it was issued to you. That link is what identifies you as the owner. A verification link you have shared with someone else will not work.
• The new owner's first name, last name and email address.

Transferring it

1. Open your certificate using the personal link from your email.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Change ownership.
3. Enter the new owner's first name, last name and email address. Phone number is optional.
4. Accept the terms and submit.

Your part is done.

What happens next

The new owner receives an email with a button to confirm the transfer. Nothing changes until they click it — until then the certificate is still yours.

Once they confirm, a new certificate is created in their name and yours is replaced. Anyone following your old link is taken to the new certificate automatically, so links you have shared keep working.

Both steps happen in the background rather than instantly, so allow a little time between submitting and the email arriving, and again after the new owner confirms.

If something isn't working

I can't find "Change ownership" on my certificate. Make sure you opened it with the personal link from your original email rather than a shared verification link. If it is still not there, this certificate cannot be transferred. Contact the company that issued it if you are unsure.

The new owner hasn't received the email. Ask them to check their spam folder. If the email address was mistyped, contact the company that issued the certificate.

We want to move it back. Once the transfer is confirmed the certificate belongs to the new owner. To return it, they start a transfer back to you the same way.
